💡   In brief

  • To use Ügyfélkapu+, you first need to register for Ügyfélkapu.
  • You can register in person at a Kormányablak (government office) or a central NAV office.
  • Ügyfélkapu+ requires a one-time code — from an authenticator app or sent by email.
  • The Ügyfélkapu activation code is sent by email and is valid for 5 days.

Ügyfélkapu+ is a way to log in to Hungarian government online services with extra protection. In addition to your username and password, the system asks for a one-time code — from an authenticator app or sent to your email.

If you don’t have Ügyfélkapu yet, register first. Below is where to do it, how to book an appointment and what to prepare.

1What Ügyfélkapu+ is

Ügyfélkapu+ is a login to Hungarian government online services with two-factor authentication:

  1. You enter your username and password.
  2. Then you enter a one-time code — from an authenticator app or sent to your email.

Official portal: ugyfelkapu.gov.hu. To access Ügyfélkapu+, you first need to create an Ügyfélkapu account.

2Where to register in person

You can register at a Kormányablak government office. You can usually walk in and wait in line or book an appointment in advance.

The other option is a central office of the NAV tax authority. When choosing an office, look for the status Központi ügyfélszolgálat — “central customer service”.

3How to book a Kormányablak appointment

You can book on the official website:

  1. Choose Időpontfoglalás kormányablakba KAÜ nélkül — booking a Kormányablak appointment without logging in via KAÜ.
  2. Choose Ügyfélkapu-regisztráció — Ügyfélkapu registration.
  3. Select the office, date and time.
  4. Enter your name, phone number and email address.

Booking specifically for Ügyfélkapu registration is possible without KAÜ identification.

4Which NAV offices can register you

Registration is available at NAV’s central customer offices. In Budapest, these include:

  • NAV South office: 1097 Budapest, Vaskapu utca 33–35.
  • NAV North office: 1134 Budapest, Dózsa György út 128–132.
  • NAV East office: 1144 Budapest, Gvadányi utca 69.
  • NAV Pest County, central customer service: 1132 Budapest, Kresz Géza utca 13–15.

The NAV website lists other offices offering Ügyfélkapu administration services. But that alone does not mean they handle first-time registration: some offices only give advice or help with an existing account.

Before you go, you can check by calling NAV on 1819. The addresses and status of the central customer offices are listed in NAV’s official directory.

Tip

If you don’t have a Hungarian tax identification number (adóazonosító jel) yet, choose one of the central NAV offices above for your Ügyfélkapu+ registration. In one visit you can sort out access to Ügyfélkapu+ and apply for a tax number.

5Which documents to bring

Prepare:

  • your passport;
  • your residence permit or permanent residence document;
  • your address card;
  • an email address.

Bring your phone: you’ll need it to set up the authenticator app if you choose that option.

6How to activate Ügyfélkapu

After registration, a one-time activation code is sent to your email. Follow the link in the email to complete activation and set a password.

The code is valid for 5 days. If you don’t activate the account in time, you’ll need to request a new code.

7How to set up Ügyfélkapu+

Before switching on Ügyfélkapu+, install an authenticator app — for example NISZ Hitelesítő, Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator. The app will generate one-time login codes.

Then log in to the Ügyfélkapu portal and follow the instructions to set up Ügyfélkapu+. Link the service to the app and save any backup data the system offers to create.

If you’d rather not install an app, you can choose to receive the one-time code by email during setup. This option has been available since January 2025. An app is more convenient if you don’t always have your email at hand: the code appears instantly, with no waiting for a message.

DÁP is another way to log in to Hungarian government services. It is not available to all foreign nationals: foreigners can register if they meet the set conditions, including having the right of long-term residence or the right of free movement and residence. If DÁP isn’t available to you, you can use Ügyfélkapu+.

In summary

To use Ügyfélkapu+, first register for Ügyfélkapu at a Kormányablak or a central NAV office. Activate your account with the code from the email within 5 days, install an authenticator app or choose to get codes by email, and set up Ügyfélkapu+.
